 BECOME A COACH


Become a Coach

One of the most rewarding things in life is becoming a coach in a youth organization. NJB coaches will help kids learn the fundamentals of basketball. They will also help them learn sportsmanship, teamwork and most importantly respect. Being a Coach at NJB is a great opportunity to give back to your community.

New or returning coaches at NJB will learn everything they need to know at one of our required coaches clinics. At the clinic you will receive a coaching manual, rule book and videos to help coach your team. You will also receive membership benefits, support from your chapter and NJB headquarters.

Every coach must be at least 16 years or older, pay a coaches registration fee and pass a background check. Please familiarize yourself with the Safe Sport Act.

Remember it’s not always about winning, it is about giving the children an unforgettable experience that will shape the rest of their lives.

 Become A Referee

Are you an experienced referee or would you like to learn how become one? Here at NJB, we pride ourselves on offering one of the best places for a new or experienced referee to work.

NJB offers a safe and non-threatening environment for those interested in refereeing for the first time in an organized setting. Included with registration is training, referee clinics and videos to help referees develop their mechanics, judgement and game management skills. Compensation is based on experience and performance.

To become an NJB referee we require you to be at least 16 years of age, complete the registration process on Arbiter and purchase your own NJB uniform from our store. If you are 18 years old or older you must pass a background check. You must also be familiar with the Safe Sport Act. Hope you decide to join us!

Step to become a referee:

  1. Click on the Registration button taking you to Arbiter.

  2. Choose appropriate geographical location.

    • If from the OC/IE, choose a registration option (register for only one)

  3. Follow the prompts on Arbiter

  4. Consent to a Background Check

  5. Upload a professional profile picture.

  6. Attend mandatory orientation meeting.

What’s Required of You:

  • Familiar with the Safe Sport Act

  • Be over the age of 16

  • Purchase an NJB Uniform

The More, The Better

Established in 1984, NJB is looking to expand into your area! Our expansion team is working hard to establish programs to provide youth basketball year round leagues emphasizing sportsmanship and player development.

Benefits of Expansion

Starting up an NJB Chapter in your area has many benefits:

  • NJB sanctioned tournaments and events

  • Year round leagues and programs

  • Certified programs for coaches and referees

  • Insurance coverage for every athlete, coach, and facility

  • Excellent vendors and sponsors for national tournaments

Expansion Process

Starting up an NJB Chapter is a very exciting and rewarding process. NJB will provide all the tools you will need to start up your chapter:

  • Flyers (distributed to your school district), posters, banners, design and social media assistance

  • NJB website which will be used to promote your chapter and accept registration

  • Assistance from the NJB HQ

  • Online Management Software for Schedules, E-mails and more

As a chapter developer, NJB will help you identify local high schools or recreation centers that are currently working with youth programs to act as your Chapter venue. Once your high school venue has been secured and flyers have been approved by the school district(s), NJB will sponsor free fundamental clinics, and player registration, with the goal of increasing the interest in your new Chapter.

What NJB Provides

Programs and Tournaments

  • Excellent training and rules clinics for game referees to establish strong working relationships between chapters and referee coordinators.

  • Online scheduling formats and procedures for chapters to follow during the regular season of competition.

  • All-Net program for chapters with full administration in scheduling, uniforms, shoes, facilities and post-season tournaments.

  • High School Leagues for players who desire to participate, and are not playing for their High School Teams.

The Championship Series and All-Stars

  • The largest team tournament in the nation for all NJB teams only. Attracts over 500 teams.

  • Area and Sectional All-Star tournament for girls and boys. 

  • National All-Star Tournament-This event culminates the winter season with the best teams competing for the National Title.

Publications

  • The official Blue Book governing the NJB chapters, containing the constitution and bylaws.

  • Maps of schools and directory of membership.

  • The official Parent Book, outlining the philosophy and guidelines of NJB.

  • The NJB Newsletters published tri-yearly, providing information on upcoming events.

  • Chapter, Area, and Sectional operational manuals.

  • Coaches Handbooks to assist coaches during the season.

  • The National Coaches Clinics – the teaching tool for the coaches and players.

  • Online training videos to assist the coaches on the court.
